The UFT Endorsement: 200,000 Members Strong

The UFT Delegate Assembly selects candidates for endorsements based on whether the candidate supports our efforts to achieve, maintain and advance the economic and professional interests of our members. The UFT has held involved thousands of members in the endorsement selection process through our UFT Town Halls.

In our member polling since January, we found that:

  • Members rank school funding as the number one priority for our next Mayor. This means that we need a Mayor who is a proven advocate for public schools, and most importantly has a thorough understanding of the city’s financial picture, levers and effects in order to sustain the maximal level of support.
  • Members rank affordable housing as the number two priority for our next Mayor. This means that we need a Mayor who has not only a comprehensive plan to increase affordability across the five boroughs, but a track record of leadership in holding NYCHA accountable and standing up for tenants’ rights.
  • Members say that New York City needs a Mayor who cares, listens and works. These three words are the top descriptions by our members for the next Mayor – indicating the right person for the job has demonstrated a career of service for the public good and unwavering commitment to strengthening the vitality of our city.
